When the Tesla Model 3 was unveiled we were treated to a small selection of highly-polished press renders and a frustratingly handicapped deluge of photos from people attending the event — which makes Motor Trend's first photo shoot with the $35,000 EV — at the Tesla Gigafactory, no less — that much sweeter.

There's not much more that we learned from the visit, especially since this prototype Model 3 was not as finished inside as the Model 3 ride-along cars that were the highlight of the unveiling. These are the first professional third-party shots we've had of the Model 3, as Tesla for no good reason limited the journalists in attendance at the unveiling to cell phone photography only.

In addition to getting the first "Hey, we got to bring a real camera!" look at the Model 3, Motor Trend also got to scope out the still-under-construction Tesla Gigafactory 1 outside of Reno, Nevada. The enormous facility is the lynchpin in Tesla's Model 3 plans, designed exclusively to produce batteries for Tesla vehicles and energy storage solutions. And, as you might expect... it's enormous.

The Model 3 isn't due to begin production until the end of 2017, right about when the bulk of the Gigafactory's production capacity will be coming online. We're sure we'll get to see and learn plenty more about the next-generation Tesla EV by then, but for now we're just happy to have some new photos of it to drool over!
