A tech startup in Raleigh, North Carolina, has an interesting proposition for would-be hires: come work for us and we'll give you a Tesla Model 3 company car. Practichem, a maker of scientific instruments, has 15 full-time employees right now (they too will get leased Model 3's on the company dime), and is using a Model 3 as a hiring incentive for 10 more open positions. Speaking with Raleigh's News Observer, CEO Nick DeMarco remarked that "this is probably the most cost-effective way to do good recruiting, much cheaper than using ... headhunters."
At $35,000, the Model 3 is actually rather modest when it comes to a hiring perk automobile, especially when it's a few hundred dollars a month as a lease. But what might be enticing about it is the exclusivity — the Model 3 won't be hitting volume production unti late 2017 and will only see 100,000-200,000 units on the road by the end of that year. With a backlog of 373,000 reservations to work through right now and more to come in the next 18 months, getting a Model 3 early and on the company dime might enough of an enticement. It's certainly an interesting way for them to spend part of their $5 million in recently raised financing.
That, or Practichem could go and lease a Tesla Model S or two today if an amazing resume comes across their desk.
