According to a Tesla SEC filing, the Tesla Model 3 has 373,000 pending reservations as of May 15, 2017 — just a month-and-a-half after the car was unveiled. Roughly 8,000 reservations were cancelled by customers, and another 4,200 duplicates from suspected speculators were purged.
The Tesla Model 3 was unveiled on March 31, 2016, and had more than 115,000 reservations placed at $1,000 apiece before the event even started. By Saturday, April 2nd, that number had grown to 276,000 reservations.
The Tesla Model 3 is expected to start at around $35,000 with production starting near the end of 2017. It's worth noting that the first deliveries of the Model 3 will be made to previous Model S and Model X customers (you know, those that dropped more than 60 grand on a car), along with a staged geographic roll-out starting along the western coast of the United States. So... if you want a Model 3, you should order one now.
