German tech site Captain Gadget recently made the trip to Fremont, California, to take a tour of the Tesla Factory where they currently build the Model S and Model X (and eventually the Model 3). They followed the process of building the Model X — Tesla does a significant amount of the work in house, including stamping body and frame parts from rolls of aluminum, electric motor production, painting, and final assembly. There are some 580 robots, all painted Tesla Red, in the factory, including a pair of heavy duty lifting arms named Thunderbird and Cyclops (after the Marvel Comics characters).
